fROOTS 2006 Review Radio Transit: Radio Transit features a collection of Brussels-based artists coming together to highlight the contribution made by and plight of Belgium s refugee community. (...) fRoots favourites Jaune Toujours crop up twice: once on a reworking of Refugies sans Frontieres from their last album (recorded with some of the refugee musicians who feature elsewhere in their own right on the CD) and again on an impressive sounding track from a 2002 collaboration with two Slovakian Gypsy singers (of which I d like to hear more). Elsewhere there s desert blues, West African calypso, roots reggae, Afro hip-hop, a duet between an Eritrean and an Etheopian musician and a very pleasing reggae blues hybrid from the Senegales group, Lamp Fall Sarafina. On this showing, Brussels multicultural music scene has a lot to offer. Jamie Renton |
