We vonden beelden van onze concertreeks op Boterhammen in het Park in 2012, mét de dansers van Bal Moderne die het publiek elke dag een nieuwe choreografie aanleerden.

Day 48 of the Covid19 quarantine:
“Accordéon”, by Jaune Toujours, performed by Piet Maris, from the very early Jaune Toujours days: It was on several demo-cassettes (early 90’s), on the debute-EP O (1998) en recently it has been compiled on the collector’s album 20sth (2016).
Written on a grey day, on the passing away of an old accordion player… For the record (pun intended): Piet asked and got the ok from no lesser than Serge Gainsbourg’s editor, to paraphrase his ‘Accordeon’ in his song: as a sort of bridge, he used a verse and chorus from the song he wrote for Juliette Gréco.

Een klein fragment van het concert van gisteren: La Paloma-Café.
Wat kan een band doen tijdens deze Covid-19 lockdown periode, wanneer alle concerten worden afgelast, om zich nuttig te maken?
Een concert spelen waar social distancing kan worden gerespecteerd en waar het publiek echt behoefte heeft aan wat afleiding.
De bewoners van Home Brugmann en Domaine du Neckersgat Ukkel kunnen nog een tijdje geen bezoekers ontvangen, dus om hen een beetje op te vrolijken vroegen hun begeleiders aan Jaune Toujours of ze een concert in hun voortuin zouden overwegen.
De leden van Jaune Toujours sprongen op de gelegenheid om opnieuw samen te spelen en zo had iedereen een zo aangenaam mogelijke namiddag in deze tijden van beperkingen.
5 Mini-concertjes op verschillende plaatsen rondom de gebouwen, zodat zeker elke bewoner ons kon horen. Theo op zijn zelfgemaakte mobiele drum kit, de blazers akoestisch, bas, accordeon en zang samen op een compacte (maar efficiënte) speaker.
Met veel warmte en enthousiasme van de bewoners. Merci OCMW Ukkel om dit mogelijk te maken!
Op weg terug naar huis kregen we politie controle:
- wat is de reden voor uw verplaatsing?
- muziek spelen voor bewoners en personeel in homes en zorgcentra
- ah oke, zeer goed, zeer goed, fijne dag nog!
(alle social distancing werd gerespecteerd - geen muzikanten werden gekwetst bij het maken van deze muziek)

Mec Yek 'Tshaje Tshaje' from the album SuperDiverCity (2015). One of the first songs Piet learned from Laci, the Rom singer white whom the whole Gipsy adventure begun, mid '90s...
James-Joyce-stream-of-conciousness-wise: misty woods - smokey tiny block huts - the tiny house Piet lived in at the lakes near an abbey in Leuven - discovery of/concerts in Brasserie De L'union - endless travelling in an R4's, busses, planes - taking musicians, photographers, journalists, radio makers on a stroll - stubborn policeman at the checkpoints - passport problems - la chaconne (Bach) full force on a blaster while travelling - dancing in the snow at midnight at minus 20 - discotek in a small Roma living room - discovery of/concerts in Bazaar Brussels - passing midnight at new year's eve with a bunch of Roma musicians in a small van while driving passed the Brussels Royal Palace in Laeken while fireworks burst out everywhere... But most important of all, the music, always taking the lead...

“King of Bongo”, by Mano Negra and Manu Chao, performed by Piet Maris
Piet has some realy fond memories of this album and Manu Chao:
"'King of Bongo', a solo version... Youth heroes, you know the phenomenon? :) I remember the release of 'King of Bongo' the album by Mano Negra as it was yesterday... What a blast: Bring the Fire! King of Bongo! Don't Want You No More! Le bruit du frigo! Letter To The Censors (concurrency for Ace of Spades!) El Jako! It's My Heart! Mad Man's Dead! Out of Time Man! Madam Oscar! Welcome In Occident! Furious Fiesta! The Fool! Paris la nuit! (when I think of it, I could cover quite some more from this album!)... Good Times... Happily revived afterwards with Manu Chao (he made a new version of King of Bongo), of whom I was so honoured to play as support act with Jaune Toujours in 2003 at Les Halles de Schaerbeek for the protest movement Nunca Mais (against the reign of the Spanish government then, who mismanaged the catastrophe with an oli tanker which polluted the Gallician coast) to go out with him afterwards in Brussels... "
Day 45 of the Covid19 quarantine: Jaune Toujours 'Voor Wat Het Is', from the album Brusk (2000).
Long time, this one... Such a long time ago, that we can even remember Radio 1 playing it, in rotation! :) The lyrics were inspired on a friend of Piet, a guitar player from a Belgian band, who were really making it at the time he wrote the song, but whom he visited in his last days, before he lost his battle against cancer... Musically Piet was inspired by some of his musical heroes back then, Lo'Jo Triban & Les Négresses Vertes... Long time...❤️

Ik zonder/sans den Theo: ’Superheld / Superhéro' from the album Ik en den Theo / Moi et le Theo (2011). Here mixed up in both Dutch and French, as they often do on their live (and pretty wild :) ) kids concerts (on the album, we have a version in Dutch and one in French). For all superheroes of yesterday, today and tomorrow!

Day 42 of the Covid19 quarantine:
Jaune Toujours ‘C’est parti’ (à la rencontre des gens perdus) from the album ROUTES (2013).
The original recording has a nice trombone solo on it, played by Martial from the Gangbé Brass Band from Benin. This is socially committed feelgood New Orleans.
Jaune Toujours used the song to support “Time To Go” one of the actions by Vrede vzw to get nuclear weapons (imposed by the Nato) out of Belgium and we made a clip out of it to show the world what really happened at the Belgian national anti austerity manifestation of november ’14 (hundreds of thousands of protesters, that was what mattered instead of those handful of provocateurs who made it to the world news)
